Rajesh De is a Distinguished Fellow at the Reiss Center on Law and Security at NYU School of Law, focusing on cyber governance. De is also a partner in Mayer Brown’s Washington, DC office and leads the firm’s global Privacy & Security practice. Most recently, De served as General Counsel for the United States National Security Agency (NSA). Prior to his service at the NSA, De served in the White House as Staff Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States. De started his career at DOJ, where he was a trial lawyer in the Antitrust Division under the Attorney General’s Honors Program.
De has also had significant congressional experience over the course of his career. He served as Counsel to the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (the “9/11 Commission”) and afterwards as Counsel to a special bipartisan staff of the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Earlier in his career, De clerked for the Honorable A. Wallace Tashima of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Pasadena, California. De graduated magna cum laude from both Harvard Law School and Harvard College.
