The report includes a quote from NYU Tandon’s Dr. Nasir Memon, who noted that the context in which such manipulated media is found is what makes this technology a deep concern. The vice dean for student and academic affairs at NYU Tandon, who has done his own significant research in the field of deepfakes, observed that, “If it’s a video of me talking to you, nobody cares. It’s no big deal.” But, he adds, “if we are talking about a video captured by law enforcement using a body camera, we care. People’s lives matter.”
