For the second time this year Professor Nikhil Gupta of the NYU Tandon Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering has been named a Fellow of a distinguished organization in materials science. The American Society for Composites honored Gupta on September 20 at its Annual Meeting in Tucson, Arizona. Earlier in the year he was honored as a Fellow of ASM International.
In conveying the honor, ASC cited his “impactful research on multifunctional heterogeneous syntactic foams, his mentorship of numerous graduate students, his extensive outreach activities in industry and popular media, and his dedicated service to the profession.” Gupta has been a member of ASC since 2000, and has served the society as Membership Secretary (2011-2015), and Chair of the Manufacturing and Processing Division (2006-2012). He was also the co-chair of the 35th Annual Technical Conference of the society in 2020.
Commenting on Gupta’s achievement, NYU Tandon Dean Jelena Kovačević, pointed towards the “remarkable range” of his research “with implications for medicine, sustainability, manufacturing, aeronautics and marine engineering, and cybersecurity.” She adds, “It’s hard to imagine a teacher and researcher more deserving of such a prestigious honor.”
