Cyber Fellows

The Cyber Fellows program was founded in 2018 in response to concerns over the growing shortfall in the number of cybersecurity professionals. The current gap in cybersecurity professionals, according to the 2025 NIST/NICE report, sits at 4.7 million. By developing a master’s degree initiative that helped overcome the two factors that have kept individuals from pursuing degrees in this field: time and money, the program has worked at resolving this gap.

In 2026, following almost a decade of impact on the practice of cybersecurity, the NYU Cyber Fellows program is now coming to a close. The program welcomed its final incoming class In the Spring of 2026, and this cohort will complete the program in the 2029-2030 school year. Along the way, the Cyber Fellows initiative has enrolled more than 1,750 students from 46 states and the District of Columbia, and, as of 2024, successfully graduated 625 individuals with an exceptional average cumulative GPA of 3.79. The students it has served range from those just beginning their careers to seasoned professionals with more than four decades in the field. In turn, the program’s alumni are now providing advanced cybersecurity expertise that is strengthening the defensive capacity of organizations across the country.
