Our most recent issue (CyberByte Fall 2024), finds the Center for Cybersecurity welcoming a new co-director, Dr. Damon McCoy, and saying farewell to the Ph.D. graduating class of 2024. You can also read about the Center’s emerging partnership with IIT-Kanpur, and its ongoing collaboration with a number of other academic, government and corporate partners in projects supporting critical infrastructure and chip supply. Lastly, we profile Caleb Beckwith, a CCS-affiliated mechanical engineering Ph.D. candidate who is pioneering new nondestructive testing methods to identify weaknesses in manufactured materials. CyberByte Spring 2024, we examine research initiatives at both NYU Tandon and Abu Dhabi that are designed to repel a growing tide of deepfakes and disinformation, including the work of two Ph.D. candidates and one 2024 Ph.D. graduate—Bruno Coelho, Aditya Sirish A Yelgundhalli, and Dr. Brian Timmerman. We also examine the policy and legal aspects of this complex topic with CCS cochair Randal Milch from the NYU Law School, profile multilingual and multidiscipinary Ph.D. student Sofija Jancheska, and chat with recent M.S. graduate Abhinav Kore, who is now a senior cybersecurity engineer at Workday. CyberByte Fall 2023 examines NYU’s unique contributions to protecting critical infrastructure against cyber attacks, including a profile of the work of Dr. Michail Maniatakos at NYU Abu Dhabi, who is developing strategies to preserve security and privacy in high-performance and embedded microprocessors. We also catch up with Ph.D. student Prasant Adhikari who divides his time between his doctoral research in improving container security and running a summer training/mentorship program that serves undergraduate students in his home country of Nepal. And, our Alumni Profile brings us up to date on 2020 Ph.D. graduate Zahra Ghodsi, who is now enjoying life as an assistant professor at Purdue University.
